How Incision Placement Affects Breast Augmentation
When women visit our office for their initial breast augmentation consultation, they are provided with various details about what they can expect regarding their procedure, including how incision placement can impact their final results. There are three main types of incisions that can be used to place breast implants, each of which has its own benefits:
- Inframammary incision – This incision is concealed along the natural crease underneath the breast, helping to hide the scar from view.
- Periareolar incision – This incision is made along the perimeter of the areola, often enabling it to be camouflaged by the darker areolar tissue.
- Transaxillary incision – This incision is made inside the armpit, so any scarring is typically well concealed.
The type of breast implant you choose, as well as your unique goals and physique, will influence which incision type is best for you. Ultimately, my aim is to provide you with a comprehensive overview of the entire breast augmentation process so you can make well-informed decisions about your procedure.
