Study Says: Breast Implants do not negatively affect breast cancer survival rates

Although it has been observed that women with breast implants actually have a marginally lower rate of breast cancer as compared to peer groups of women in the general population, occasionally a patient will express a concern to me that the presence of breast implants might make her mammograms more difficult to read and, therefore, lead to a lowered chance to identify breast cancer in its earliest stages. A new study puts this concern to rest.

The recently reported long term study in Canada shows that women with breast implants who go on to develop breast cancer have the same survival statistics as women without implants who go on to develop breast cancer. As shown in this study, the presence of breast implants did not lead to a poorer outcome if breast cancer is identified.
